The Ed Miller Biography

Ed Miller grew up in New Orleans, Louisiana. He received two degrees from M.I.T. in 2000. After a year teaching at M.I.T. Ed Miller worked as a software developer for Microsoft.

Ed Miller started playing Limit Texas Hold'em poker as a hobby. After losing his initial stake, he found books and websites to improve his game. He participated in online forum discussions and after a few months he turned his losses into wins at a local cardroom.

By January 2003 Ed Miller had moved up to higher stakes and in March he left his job at Microsoft to play poker full-time. By then he had swapped roles on the online discussion forums from advice-seeking beginner to expert player. He also started writing for Casino and Gaming Television.

After successfully beating the games in the Seattle area, Ed moved to Las Vegas. There he met Dr. Alan Schoonmaker, the author of The Psychology of Poker, as well as David Sklansky, another poker author, and Mason Malmuth, a poker book publisher.

In 2004, Ed wrote Small Stakes Hold 'em: Winning Big With Expert Play, which quickly became known as the "bible" for limit hold'em games up to $40-$80. The rumor is that Ed Miller wrote the book alone and that Mason Malmuth and David Sklansky's names are listed as co-authors in order to tell more copies.

Shortly thereafter, Ed earned the nickname "Noted Poker Authority" from his friend in a funny story about Ed's propensity to shout "Boom" when winning at the blackjack tables.

In 2005, Ed completed Getting Started in Hold 'em, a hold'em beginners book. Ed also completed four instructional DVDs, which focus on limit hold'em games.

In 2006, Ed co-wrote No Limit Hold 'em: Theory and Practice with David Sklansky, author of The Theory of Poker. Ed says the book is mainly Sklansky's concepts.

Ed Miller finished a fourth book due out soon. Miller collaborated with professional players Matt Flynn and Sunny Mehta on the book, to whom he credits the central theses. A follow-up second book is scheduled. Rumor has it the majority of the work for the second book is already completed.

Miller now lives in New York. Today Ed Miller can be found in various hold'em games around the world and of course, on his own website, Noted Poker Authority.
